Day
1 Nata Botswana
Departing Johannesburg, we make our way to the Botswana border. Leaving
South Africa we cross into Botswana. This vast, thinly populated country
is one of Africa’s few economic success stories, in large part due
to the immense mineral wealth that lies beneath its sandy soils. Diamonds
being the source of much of its wealth. We continue northwards to Nata,
where our first night is spent camping on the edge of the Makgadikgadi
Pans. (D)
Days
2 Livingstone (Victoria Falls) Zambia
This morning we make our way northwards to Livingstone, the town on the
Zambian side of the Victoria Falls. We visit the spectacular Victoria
Falls, aptly named “the smoke that thunders". Late afternoon
we embark on a sunset cruise on the mighty Zambezi (Zambian side). As
well as enjoying some sundowners on the cruise, you will have the opportunity
to see some of the wildlife that inhabits the banks of the river. (B,D)
Day
3 Livingstone (Victoria Falls) Zambia
Today is free to go white water rafting, canoeing, elephant riding, bungy
jumping and more. Victoria Falls is the adrenalin capital of Africa so
there is plenty to choose from. Explore the town, visit the wonderful
craft markets or even do a “Flight of the Angels” over the
falls! You have the option to cross the bridge into Zimbabwe and the town
of Victoria Falls. (B,D)
Day 4 Chobe National Park Botswana
This morning is free to do some last minute shopping at the markets and
in town. We then cross into Botswana where we will camp in Kasane on the
banks of the Chobe River. In the late afternoon you have the option of
a river cruise, where it is not uncommon to see herds of elephant swimming
across the river as well as buffalo coming to the water to drink and not
to mention the hundreds of hippos inhabiting the river. (B,D)
Day
5 Maun Botswana
This morning we do a 4x4 game drive into Chobe National Park, home to
some of the large herds of migratory elephants that Botswana is so famous
for. A game viewing experience not to be missed. After breakfast we make
our way south.
On this drive through the Chobe district is is not uncommon to see elephants
and other wildlife along the side of the road. Late afternoon we arrive
in Maun, the gateway to the Delta. You can visit a nearby Crocodile Farm,
and we make our preparations for our trip into the Delta. (B,D)
Days
6,7, 8 Okavango Delta Botswana
This morning we venture into the wild bush of Africa, far from
any form of civilisation. Our journey begins by 4x4 and once in the Delta
we join local villagers/ guides on mokoros (2 man dug out canoes). We
begin our search for abundance of wildlife that inhabits the Delta. Drifting
silently through the channels. We set up camp on islands in the Delta.
After a breathtaking sunset, relax around the campfire listening to the
magical sounds of the night. The days are filled with game walks, tracking
different species and exploring the waterways of the world renowned Okavango
Swamps. On the last afternoon we return to Maun and enjoy a braai (BBQ).
(B.L,D)
Day
9 Khama Rhino Sanctuary Botswana
This morning you have the option of a scenic game flight over
the Delta giving you the chance to see the entire area as well as spot
some game. After that we head south where we spend our last evening in
the Seretse Khama Rhino Sanctuary, a project to re-introduce Rhinos to
Botswana. During a game drive see if you can spot the White Rhinoceros
in their conservation programme. (B,D)
