Day Gorillas and Chimpanzee Safari |
|
Trekking
in the Verungu Mountains in the Parc de Volcans in Rwanda in search of
the mountain gorilla is one of the most memorable experiences that will
stay with you forever. Once found you can sit meters away from these magnificent
endangered creatures. A visit to see the gorillas will help to ensure
their continued survival in their natural habitat.
Day
1 - Kampala:
After checking into the hotel we head off to the Ngamba Chimpanzee Sanctuary.
Situated on an island 23kms from Entebbe, the sanctuary is beautifully
forested which provides a safe environment for the orphaned chimpanzee
that now regard this as their home. (L; D)
Day
2 – Kampala to Kabale:
An early start sees us heading southwest to Gorilla country. Sir Winston
Churchhill named Uganda “The Pearl of Africa” and never a
truer word has been spoken about this beautiful country. The scenery is
green and the people are extremely hospitable. The landscape varies from
fertile green areas to snow covered Ruwenzori Mountains in the west to
semi – desert parts in the north. (B; L; D)
Day
3 – Kabale to Ruhengeri:
This is an easier day as we cross the Ruwenzoris and head into Rwanda
and check into our hotel. It is situated on the edge of the Parc de Volcansin
the foothills of the volcanoes of the Virungus. (B; L; D)
Day
4 – Ruhengeri to Kisoro:
After a briefing by the park ranger, we head off in search of these magnificent
gentle giants, the mountain gorilla. * The time taken to trek and find
the gorillas can be long and tiring, although once in their presence the
effort is more than worth it. The mountain gorilla (Gorilla Berengei)
is one of our closest living relatives and it is thought that only about
600 still exist! Late afternoon sees us cross over into Uganda. The experience
of trekking the gorillas is one of the greatest highlights that anyone
can have in Africa. Try is and we believe that you will agree. (B; L;

Day
5 – Kisoro to Lake Bunyoni:
A leisurely day sees us make our way to lake Bunyoni, where you can relax
or swim, windsurf, go cray fishing, whatever takes your fancy from the
many amenities there. (B; L; D)
Day
6 – Lake Bunyoni to Kampala:
Heading in a northeasterly direction we make our way back to Kampala where
the trip comes to end. (B)
